One suspect is in custody and two others are at large after leading Cleveland County deputies on a high-speed chase in the Norman area, Tuesday morning.
A sheriff's deputy tried to stop the suspect's 2005 Acura near 168th Ave. NE and Tecumseh Rd. after following it and watching it commit a number of minor traffic violations. The vehicle did not stop for the deputy, but rather sped away and the chase was on.
Authorities tell News 9 two passengers, a male and female, exited the vehicle at 156th Ave. NE and Tecumseh Rd. and took off on foot. The driver continued for a short distance, but was apprehended by a K9 unit a short time after bailing out near 168th Ave. NE and E. Indian Hills Rd.
That driver has been identified as 34-year-old Ronald Lynn Riggs Jr. He was arrested on complaints of eluding a police officer, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and failure to carry security verification.
Norman Police assisted in a search for the other two suspects, but at this time they remain at large. Little Axe Public Schools were briefly placed on lock down because of the search.
Authorities ask anyone with information about the two passengers to call the CCSO tip line at (405) 701-8870 or Crime Stoppers at (405) 701-8872. You may also send anonymous tips using the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office mobile app.
