Cleveland County Sheriff's Office Investigating Warrant Scam

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s office reports they have heard from multiple victims in a warrant scam case.

Rebecca Foster says she was almost the victim the scam. She says it all starts with a phone call and an accusation.

Foster claims the caller told her, “my husband had two warrants out for his arrest for failure to appear and contempt of court.” The part she says worries her the most is that the caller is claiming to be a deputy with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.

The actual Sheriff’s Office says it’s all fake. But when News 9 called the number tied to the scam, we got the same believable message.

When Foster spoke to the man claiming to be “Deputy Harris”, he gave her a fake case number, but a real address. A look into that address reveals it to be to the District Attorney’s Office at the Oklahoma County Courthouse.

The Sheriff’s Office say they have heard of the scam before and aren’t amused.

“From what I know now, if you have a warrant out for your arrest, the Sheriff’s Office will come to your house,” said Foster.

Meghan Jackson with Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office goes a step further with a warning for the scammer.

“Let’s say we do find this person,” she said. “That’s when we won’t call them. We’ll show up on their doorstep and take them to the real Cleveland County Detention Center.”

Jackson added that impersonating a deputy is a felony offense and they’re actively investigating the case.
