On Tuesday, OKC’s City Council voted to take the first steps in making the Wheeler District the city’s 11th tax incentivized district.
The Wheeler District is located south of the Oklahoma River, just west of Western Blvd. Plans call for 2,000 homes, parks, and trails to go along with the Ferris wheel which has already opened.
Developers approached the city to ask for help in the way of a tax incentive to help pay for roads and other infrastructure. A new OKC public school is also planned for the Wheeler District.
“This isn’t a gated community. It’s for everyone. It’s an urban neighborhood,” said Wheeler District Developer, Blair Humphreys.
No word yet on how much could be provided in incentives. A committee will now be formed to examine what can be done to help the development.
