Two Chickasha police officers are in the hospital with gunshot wounds, and the man accused of shooting them Sunday afternoon is in custody.
OSBI tells News 9 that Chickasha police were serving a warrant at a house off of HWY 81 behind the Rock Island Grill, when a man opened fire, striking the two officers. He then barricaded himself inside the home for nearly two hours.
SWAT teams from across Oklahoma raced to the scene to aid in negotiations with the man accused of shooting two officers. Police still cannot say why he started shooting, but investigators say it happened quickly after the Chickasha officers showed up to conduct a search warrant at the house.
OSBI reports the officers did fire back at the man before he escaped inside. As the stand-off began, one injured officer was flown to OU Med hospital. Sources tell News 9 he is in critical condition, but the other officer is expected to recover from minor injuries.
During his surrender, the suspect was instructed to walk slowly out of the house, backwards with hands held high. Bob Mills Sky News 9 captured footage of the man wearing a bloody shirt with a towel wrapped around his neck.
Once in custody, the suspect was escorted to an ambulance and taken away to be treated for unknown injuries.
