Rogers County Man Sentenced To Over 65 Years Has Long Criminal History

After multiple offenses, the most recent arrest for a Rogers County Man may leave him locked up for the rest of his life. 

A jury recommended that Jimmy Weeks, a registered sex offender, spend life in prison along with an additional 65 years. 

Weeks has a long rap sheet involving sexual molestation, failing to register, and for living too close to a school or daycare.

He’s been in and out jail since 1986 when he was arrested for lewd molestation of a child.

He was sentenced to 30 years but got out in 16.

Again, in 2000, he was arrested for the same crime.

This time sentenced to 12 years but got out in 6.

In 2007 and 2008, he went back to jail for failing to register and living too close to a school.

That time he was sentenced to three and a half years but got out in 16 months.

His record doesn’t end there.

In 2014 he was arrested twice, in April and August, for again living too close to a school or daycare. 

The most recent arrest, the one he's being sentenced for now, was in 2016 as a part of "Operation Stop", a task force set out to make sure registered sex offenders were following rules.

Regina Trainor has worked at the Big Star Kids and Company daycare for 10 years and said staff was always cautious of Weeks.

"It's our job and our duty to keep them safe from anything and anyone because we're entrusted in their lives," Trainor said. "We worry about it constantly kind of keep an eye on the house that he stays at over there and who's out there and constantly look over there to see what's going on."

Weeks is no stranger to the Rogers County Jail.

"We expect sex offenders to comply with the law, to register as they are supposed to and to stay out of the safe zones that protect our community and our children," said Edith Singer, Rogers County Assistant District Attorney.

Weeks originally said he lived on Maple Avenue in a house that burned down years ago, but investigators later found out he was staying in a house on Third Avenue which is across the street from Foyil Elementary school and next to the daycare.

"I asked the jury to send a message to Mr. Weeks of what they thought of his violations of the sex offender registration laws and I think that they did just that by their verdict," Singer said.

So prosecutors said it was easy to come up with a guilty verdict. 

Which gives people in the community reassurance that he will never get out.

"I'm glad that he is locked away," Trainor said.

It was then that Weeks was again found living too close to a school and not registering as a sex offender. 

The jury’s recommended sentence is 65 years for failure to register as a sex offender and life (40 years in Oklahoma) for living too close to a school. 

His next court date is set for November, where the judge will sentence him and decide if he serves that time back to back or at the same time. 

Weeks will be formally sentenced on Nov. 3.
