The Tulsa State Fair begins Thursday, and Tulsa County deputies will be there to keep your family safe and together.

It’s not uncommon for kids to get lost at the fair. In fact, the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said nearly 150 kids were lost and found just last year.

The sheriff's office is asking you to take a picture of your kids before coming to the fair, that way you'll have a current photo with what they're wearing.

The department is also offering free wristbands for children with space for parents to write their cell phone numbers down.

Last year they gave out more than 8,000 wristbands, but they'll have more than 20,000 available this year.

"Although the majority of people are law-abiding citizens, there are those that would victimize a small child, and so, you have to communicate to your children what to do in the event they get lost," Sheriff Vic Regalado said.

He said parents need to talk to their kids about how to deal with strangers and what to do in case they get separated.

"Teach your children to memorize pertinent information, like address and cell phones," Regalado said.

You'll find deputies all around the fair, and their booth is set up on the west end of Expo Square.
