A monument to honor Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend Leon Russell will soon be built in Tulsa.
Russell began his musical career at the age of 14 right here in Green Country. Steve Todoroff, a co-chair of the Leon Russell Monument Fund, says he hopes fans will be able to keep Russell a part of the city.
"This will be a place for them to go Memorial Park and pay tribute, pay their respects and kind of keep his name going here in Tulsa for generations to come," Todoroff said.
The committee held their final fundraiser Saturday at Circle Cinema. The group raised over 42 thousand dollars for the monument. Singer Sir Elton John is among those who donated.
The monument is set to be placed at Memorial Park.
