Tulsa Arts District Property Denied Rezoning

The Board of Adjustment decided this week not to rezone property in the Tulsa Arts District that could allow it to be redeveloped.

The owners of an old gas station on Main Street want to re-zone the property in order to expand their light industrial operations right next door.

But this week, the Board of Adjustment voted against that move and many architecture enthusiasts in Tulsa are trying to save it.

The thing is, the property owner could still get a demolition permit without the re-zoning and tear it down even though it does contribute to a historical district.

Amanda DeCort, executive director of the Tulsa Foundation of Architecture, said while the property owners have done amazing things in Tulsa, "I hope they will allow this historic building to be repurposed and rehabilitated and let it stand and keep it going."

The business that wants to expand is Baird Manufacturing that has been in the location next door for close to 100 years.
