Tulsa police have arrested a suspect in a 2017 homicide case involving a woman found in a dumpster.

TPD announced Tuesday during a press conference that convicted rapist Dennis J. Kurtz Jr. is suspected of sexually assaulting and murdering 43-year-old Amy Robertson in April of 2017.

Tulsa police recovered Robertson's body from a dumpster behind Las Americas after employees discovered the body.

The case was left cold until a special victims unit detective, who was investigating a sexual assault in which Kurtz was convicted of rape, recognized similarities in her case and the homicide case.

After comparing DNA found at the April homicide scene to DNA from the sexual assault, police were able to connect Kurtz to the homicide.

Kurtz had already been, and still is, serving time for the rape which took place in November of 2017 when the DNA was tested.

Kurtz was arrested on complaints of first-degree murder. His court date is yet to be announced.
