The park has been touted as having something for everyone, and that includes our kids. So, we wanted to show you exactly what you can expect if you have little ones who want to burn some energy on the playground.
I got an up-close look at the playground, which is made up of netscape areas, which are islands made up of nets aimed at kids 5-to-12 years old. However, the 3-acre playground has something for everyone. Park and playground architect Gavin McMillan said it centers around a theme.
"It's basically a playground in the woodland," McMillan said. "When the trees grow up, you'll feel like you're in the forest."
There are animals as well, including a long snake, made to climb on.
"We wanted a couple of Oklahoma native animals, friendly ones," he said. "We got the sandbox that runs up the back of the snake, plenty of benches for parents to watch their kids. Kids jumping over snake water course, they can follow the water and end up at the wolf spider."
The spider is meant to be climbed on and it's the only one like it, custom made for our park.
"For kids who have cell phones, this will be the Instagram shot for them," McMillan said.
And while you have your camera out, just down from that, is a climbing net.
"They'll get in and then they have to find their way out," he said. "That's awesome."
There's a rock wall that will eventually be shaded once the tree on top grows, an area for kids about two years old that will have spinning discs they can sit on top of and whirl around. And there's a special spot that is wheelchair accessible that will have diggers so all kids can play in the sand.
"They'll sit on those yellow things, and the digger -- they can move them around as if they're sitting in a construction site," he said.
And then there will be an area kids will love, where more than 80 jets will spray water anywhere from 4 to 10 feet high.
"The inspiration behind it was actually the wind in Oklahoma City," McMillan said. "Pays tribute to wind, so all the big jets actually point as if they're blowing over in the wind."
So, whether you're young or young at heart, the playground is going to be one of the highlights of the park.
And right next to the park are covered picnic tables and restrooms.
