A new business bringing together dozens of Oklahoma City metro retailers was just created and is already having success.

"We were trying to figure out ways we could make our business work," said one of the owners of Capitals Ice Cream, Layne Ferguson.

Ferguson and his team had to get creative due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, they came up with the concept of City Box.

"Something we've noticed is missing right now is going to your favorite restaurant and your favorite bookstore, and we're just finding ways we can pair those goods with other retailers and bring those into your living room," said Ferguson.

So his ice cream shop is now a makeshift distribution center. Ferguson and the owners of Capitals bring in items from other retailers and group them into different boxes. People can go to the new company's website to purchase a box and Capitals employees deliver on Tuesday's and Friday's .

"We had to close down both our event space and our tasting room." said Water's Edge Winery owner Roger Cude.

His winery is just one of the dozens of retailers that are now a part of City Box.

Cude said in a typical month his business used to bring in $35,000-$40,000, for the month of March they've only made a couple thousand. Every purchase at City Box helps.

"Certainly it doesn't make up for all of our revenues but it does help us pay the utility bill, keep the lights on," said Cude.

Ferguson said they have really seen the community support and he's hoping it continues.
"Two weeks old we've already sold 500 boxes," said the Capital's owner.

He said right now is not the time for retailers to compete, and instead they should all partner up.

"We're all better together," said Ferguson. "We're all in this together."
