Oklahomans could be targeted by scammers offering to register people to vote over the phone, the Oklahoma State Election Board said Monday.

These calls were reported in other states and have been investigated by the FBI and U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Voters cannot be registered over the phone.

Neither election officials nor legitimate voter advocacy groups will ever offer to register a person to vote or send an absentee ballot based solely on a phone conversation.

The Oklahoma State Election Board said Oklahoma should not give their personal information over the phone.

Anyone who receives a phone call such as the one detailed above is asked to call the state election board at 405-521-2391.
