Authorities are investigating after an overnight traffic stop in Warr Acres ended in an officer-involved shooting.

Officers said the suspect, Kevin Kindred, 35, was pulled over for a traffic stop about 11:30 p.m., and exited his vehicle with a gun in his hand. Officials said two officers at the scene, near Northwest 36th St. and St. Charles Ave., told the suspect to get on the ground and then one officer, Sgt. Charles McMackin, fired striking Kindred.

Kindred was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. Investigators say more information, including why Kindred was originally pulled over, will be released in the next few days.

“At this point we’re not able to interview the shooting officer for at least two days, so at that point we’ll be able to figure out what the traffic violation was and why the officer pulled him over,” Captain Bo Matthews with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

As required, the Sgt McMackin, who fired the shot that struck Kindred, has been placed on paid administrative leave. Sgt McMackin has seven years of service.
