The old Marquette basketball coach Al McGuire once famously said, "The best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores."
If Mr. McGuire had seen this Sooner freshman class, he'd want every year he could get out of them.
A go-to wideout in CeeDee Lamb, a bulldozer of a back in Trey Sermon, Kenneth Murray, the first true freshman to start at middle linebacker at OU in 40 years, and a duo of Treys that made an instant impact in wins against OSU and TCU, just to name a few.
Lincoln Riley calls this class the most impactful freshman class he's ever seen.
"We knew it was a talented class, but the mindset of those guys coming in, how quickly they jelled with our players, the individual talent, they've been critical to our success," Riley said.
"They care a lot and their passionate about playing and working for this program and some of those guys have been getting a lot of playing time because of that," Baker Mayfield said.
How much the freshmen in the secondary play will be somewhat dependent on Jordan Thomas' status. The senior corner missed last game and is considered questionable for Kansas.
