Just ahead of its showdown at No. 1 Oklahoma City, St. Gregory's set a school record by moving up to No. 2 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Cavaliers received 506 votes, which was 12 ahead of third-place Auburn-Montgomery and 22 back of the Stars.
The national ranking is the highest-ever for any sport at St. Gregory's. The Cavs tied a program mark set in 2008 by moving to No. 3 two weeks ago. The SGU men's soccer team also rose to No. 3 in 2000.
At 33-3, St. Gregory's is off to its best start in program history. The Cavs have won 16 straight overall and 26 of their last 27 games.
The move in ranking set up a 1-2 match-up Tuesday night at Ann Lacy Stadium in Oklahoma City.
