I had a conversation, back in August, with the DA's office in Cleveland County.
They were investigating the case against OU running back Joe Mixon. They'd just received the surveillance video from Pickleman's Cafe of him tangling with an OU coed and eventually knocking her out with one punch.
They told me they would be releasing the video at the conclusion of the case.
Mixon pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor last week, but then Norman PD, and the City of Norman had a change of heart and decided they were not going to provide copies to the media or ultimately to the public.
I believe the video falls under the Open Records Act, the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters has filed a lawsuit against Norman making the same claim.
Certainly, we understand it is a sensitive, embarrassing issue for all involved, especially Joe Mixon, Amelia Molitor, the female student involved, and the University of Oklahoma, but that's not reason enough to conceal evidence of a public crime from the public.
Oklahomans have heard countless reports about the incident and many were outraged, arguing that one side or the other bears the blame for the fight that night in July.
I haven't seen the video, yet, but I'd like to decide for myself if I think the case was handled fairly, and I'm sure many of you would too.
I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
