Derek Fisher has yet to formally announce his retirement from the Oklahoma City Thunder but all signs point to retirement for the 39-year-old point guard on the heels of his 18th season in the league.
Still, even with his announcement seeming eminent, it appears the NBA wants the decision set in stone before other teams come calling for Fisher about coaching vacancies, including legendary former Bulls and Lakers coach Phil Jackson, who Fisher won five championships with in Los Angeles.
The league fined Jackson, who is now the president of the Knicks, $25,000 on Monday for mentioning Fisher about New York's head coaching vacancy in a press conference last week while Fisher was still in the middle of the Western Conference Finals for the Thunder.
Jackson referred to Fisher as being "on my list of guys that could be very good candidates." The NBA deemed the statement to be a violation of league policy since he was still under contract and playing for OKC.
ESPN reported Monday evening that Jackson and Fisher will meet about the coaching job for the Knicks later in the week.
