Neighbors say they would often see Mitchell sitting on his front porch watching the neighborhood. They still can't believe he's gone.

"I was crying, tears were in my eyes, because he didn't do no wrong," said Flora Webb, who is devastated that her neighbor is gone.

She just moved across the street a month ago, but considered Mitchell a friend.

"I saw him Friday. And he wouldn't let nobody in his house, never! You could never go further than the door."

Oklahoma City police say it was another concerned friend who called them on Sunday night, and asked them to come by the house near N.E. 21st and Lottie to check on Mitchell, since he hadn't answered the door or phone.

When police went inside, they found Mitchell dead on the floor. His family is still in shock.

"I couldn't believe it, it was just unbelievable," said his niece, Latasha Eck. "And I still don't that's why I thought I'd come by and look at the house. I didn't know what to expect that's why I wanted to drive by."

Eck says it was her brother who called her and told her the bad news about her uncle.

"He's a good man," said Eck. "He was a business man for northeast Oklahoma City. He had a bondsman business for years. He's my favorite uncle."

Friends and family say Mitchell used to own this business located about a mile down the street. That business looks like it has not been open for several years. And neighbors say the area has gone downhill and is riddled with crime.

But they are still stunned by Mitchell's murder. The family just wants to know who's responsible.

"I would like to know, I would like to," said Eck. "But for now I guess we just have to wait."

Right now, Oklahoma City police do not have any suspects in custody, but they are hoping that the people in this area that may have seen something suspicious will call their Homicide Tip Line at (405) 297-1200.
