Jack Mayfield hit a sacrifice fly to score Kolbey Carpenter in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Oklahoma Sooners to a 3-2 win over New Mexico State Wednesday night in Norman.
The Sooners pounded out nine hits, but were unable to put more runs on the board, stranding seven runners for the game.
Jacob Evans picked up the win for OU, working out of a bases-loaded, no outs jam in the top of the eighth inning to preserve a tie game. Adam Mott took the loss for the Aggies despite a strong 8.1 innings of work.
The Sooners struck first in the bottom of the first inning with Mayfield scoring on a groundout by Max White. The Aggies tied the score in the fourth on an RBI double from Michael Paulson and took the lead in the sixth inning when Robert Lecount scored from third on a wild pitch.
Oklahoma battled back to tie the score in the seventh on a pair of doubles from Justin Burba and Mayfield.
The Sooners are back in action this weekend, taking on Northwestern State in a three-game series.
