The flu is keeping paramedics across the state busy this winter.

EMSA officials say last month, more than 8,600 people in the metro called 911. The previous record was about 8,300 calls set in July of 2012.

In January, EMSA transported almost 6,800 people to emergency rooms in the metro, and about 6,100 patients in Tulsa.

EMSA officials believe the flu is causing a spike in call volume.
