A gas leak at a OneOk natural gas facility in northern Oklahoma is causing city and county officials to consider mandatory evacuations in the town of Medford.
Officials decided not to evacuate the town Wednesday or Thursday during a closed-door meeting Wednesday afternoon. News 9 leaned from a source after the meeting that the evacuations are being called off because winds are expected to die down and the gas leak is not expected to become more serious.
Highway 81 in Medford was closed down 2 miles south of town as of late Wednesday. OneOk tells our source from the meeting that it will monitor the leak every two hours.
Future evacuations have not been ruled out.
