OKLAHOMA CITY -- A judge ruled Tuesday that the mother of Kelsey-Smith Briggs will not receive anything from a settlement over her daughter's death.
Lance Briggs filed a wrongful death lawsuit against DHS and others after his daughter, Kelsey, died from abuse in 2005. Briggs received a $625,000 settlement.
Kelsey's mother, Raye Dawn Smith, is serving a prison sentence for enabling child abuse. A judge ruled that because Smith played a role in Kelsey's death, she cannot benefit from it.
Smith is appealing her conviction.
