Musician and Oklahoma native Graham Colton came home this Thanksgiving to help feed hungry Oklahomans.
"Whatever way I and all of us can give back that's the only thing to do," Colton said.
Colton and Chesapeake Energy are helping fight hunger by collecting food and fund donations for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. This is a charitable event that Colton, 25, said he hopes to do annually.
"It's tough right now and I think anything that we can do to not only raise awareness but lead the charge in our little microcosm and help to spread it outwards...we have to do that," the Heritage Hall graduate said.
The food and fund drive comes at a critical time for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, said Rodney Bivens the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma executive director. Demand for food is up this year by 20 to 50 percent throughout the state.
"The downturn in the economy has affected all of us, but the more critical part the people who are struggling already are affected ten times over," Bivens said.
Colton will perform at Lyric Theatre on Friday November 28th. This show will also benefit the food bank as volunteers will be on hand to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations.
Graham Colton Thanksgiving Food Drive Show is Friday November 28th at the Lyric Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets: $20
