Here's some additional info I couldn't put in the story because of time...
When I first called OG&E, they too thought there is no way 1 month's bill could be more than all of last year's months combined.
But they whole-heartedly stand behind the bill now. They say they've checked it and double checked it.
OG&E also says it's not unusual for bills to skyrocket in November, December and January.
In fact, they showed me their records for this property going back several years. When they added up Nov., Dec., and Jan. for the last several years, it was about 800 dollars... But keep in mind, this was with other owners. And on average the previous owner's November bill was about 200 dollars. But with the current owner, November was about 75 bucks. And that was not an estimate.
Who knows what happened - but one thing is for sure: This would be a shock to anyone! There are some options you may want to look at to prevent being surprised. OG&E offers bill averaging. Here's a link to their website for more information:
