A fiery crash Friday morning between a motorcycle and a car in Midwest City shut down part of N.E. 10th Street.

The accident happened around 7:15 a.m. at N.E. 10th Street and King Road. According to the Midwest City Fire Department, the motorcycle driver -- a juvenile -- was heading westbound on N.E. 10th Street when a car pulled out in front of him.

The young motorcyclist slammed into the passenger side of the car. Witnesses said the motorcycle caught fire, and the driver was knocked unconscious.

Police say witnesses stopped and were able to extinguish the flames. An ambulance was called to the scene to transport the injured motorcyclist to OU Medical Center.

The teenager, police say, suffered third degree burns over approximately 50 percent of his body. He is in extremely critical condition along with other life threatening injuries.

"Currently, Motor Officer John Shuck is still gathering facts regarding the accident. We do know speed was not a factor concerning the motorcyclist, however it appears the driver of the car made an improper left turn by failing to yield to oncoming traffic," Chief Brandon Clabes said.

The driver of the car was not injured. Police have not released the names of either person involved in the crash.
