New Coronavirus (COVID-19) Testing Site Opens At SW OKC Walmart

A new COVID-19 testing site opened on Monday. The Oklahoma City-County Health Department announced testing area is located in the Walmart parking lot at Southwest 104th Street and Interstate 44. 

The newest site began testing around 9 a.m. Monday morning. 

Visitors must schedule their visit beforehand and county health officials said they can process up to 200 tests each day.

First responders and health care workers can get tested without showing symptoms, however others will be screened.

“The biggest difference with the Walmart site is that folks can go online to that website, list their symptoms and go ahead and schedule that appointment all online,” said LToya Knighten, with the Oklahoma City-County Health Department.

Appointments are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. There will not be walk-up testing at this site, you must stay in your vehicle. Those who get tested will get a kit to swab their own nose inside their car. Some believe adding more testing sites can only be positive.

“I think it’s good because it’s just makes it more available to the mass public and it just seems like it’s more available,” said Sophia Spilman, a local resident.

There’s no out of pocket cost for the test and results will come back within 48 hours. Health officials said this is a step in the right direction getting as many people tested as possible.

“As we continue to grow, our testing capacity we have a much better picture of how the data is trending and really being able to pinpoint just how widespread the virus is in our community,” said Knighten.

Health officials also mention that it’s important to look up coronavirus symptoms online before making an appointment.

“Even if it’s just for the peace of mind or whoever feels like they need to be tested, I think the more testing the better,” said Knighten. “It’s the only way you’re going to know.”
