An Oklahoma City church plans to operate as a learning center to help elementary students working on digital homework this fall.
Trinity Baptist Church will open “The Homework Place” every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. starting September 2.
Lanette James, the church’s kids and family minister, said the rooms are newly refurbished and just opened in June.
“We’ll have certified teachers here to help (students) with their homework. We have plenty of room to social distance, and we’ll follow all the COVID-19 guidelines,” she said.
Students in kindergarten through fourth grade are able to sign-up, and there is no cost to attend.
There are several rooms designated for early and late elementary students.
Oklahoma City Public Schools is set to start classes completely online late this month. James said the Homework Place will help make up for lost in-person experiences.
“Hopefully, this will be a social time for kids,” James said. “To be able to interact with each other and make friends.”
