Okla. City-County Health Department Says School Facilities In County Possibly Exposed To COVID-19

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department says they were notified of a possible exposure at school facilities in Oklahoma County, but they are not identifying which schools currently.

The department says a school could possibly re-close if multiple cases are found.

In McClain County, Newcastle public schools sent a letter to parents saying an elementary student tested positive for COVID-19. The rest of the class, which was around 20 students, were sent home and are in quarantine.

The district says they are working with the state health department to handle the situation, and that the parents of anyone with direct exposure to the student have been notified.

"This is not easy, it's not easy on the families, it is not easy on the students. It's definitely not easy on the school support staff,” says Newcastle Superintendant Melonie Hau.

The city-county health department is advising parents to not send their child to school if they feel sick.

They also advise that children stay home until they receive a negative test if they have possibly been exposed, and to quarantine the child for 14 days, even if they receive a negative result.
