A Seminole police officer is hospitalized with second and third degree burns after rescuing his children from their burning home on Friday morning.

Officer Anthony Louie arrived on scene to his house engulfed in flames, knowing his two young boys were inside. As he made his way inside, his wife, Lureena Louie, said her husband was able to rescue their children.

“When I arrived to the house, they had told me that he ran through the doors, through the TV, through the back glass door to get the kids out,” Lureena Louie said.

Battling flames, the officer managed to pull 14-year-old Thomas and 7-year-old AJ to safety.

“Even if it's your family or strangers, going into a burning house, it's just not natural,” Seminole Police Department interim chief Jon Withers said. “It's not normal. You really have to have the guts and the bravery to do that.”

Louie said she had left the house just 50 minutes before the fire ignited. She was told an electrical issue may have sparked the fire. She said what her husband did to save their children is nothing short of incredible.

“My heart dropped to know that he is a good dad,” Louie said. “He does do a lot for them, does a lot for the city.”

Officer Louie suffered burns to the right side of his body and smoke inhalation. He's recovering and is expected to be out of the hospital later this week.

“And now that I know that everything’s going to be OK, and that everything else can be replaced, at least I have all of them still,” Louie said.
