Mustang and Choctaw-Nicoma Park public schools said their students will resume in-person classes on Monday until the end of the semester, even though the Oklahoma State School Board Association’s color-coded map shows Oklahoma County in the red alert level.

The districts said this will help students tie up any loose ends with homework, tests, and projects with their teachers help.

Mustang Public Schools said high school traditional and blended students will return on a staggered A-B schedule on Monday December 7.

Pre-K through eighth grade students will be back in the classroom five days a week.

Earlier this week, the Choctaw Nicoma-Park school district gave it’s superintendent the authority to bring students back in the classroom amid continued COVID-19 cases and deaths.

The district said its students are falling behind and new research shows COVID-19 spread inside schools isn't as big as a problem as originally thought.

The superintendent said on December 7, Choctaw Nicoma Park students will return to class 5 days a week.

“We know that some parents are a little nervous about sending their students [back to the classroom] with the cases being where they’re at,” said Superintendent David Reid in a video posted on the district’s Facebook. “So we’re going to give parents the option to continue with distance learning for the remainder of the semester.”

Choctaw-Nicoma Park families have until the end of Friday to tell their child’s school if they want to stick with distance learning or go back to traditional learning for the next semester.
