The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said the new flyover ramp from Eastbound Interstate 44 to Northbound Interstate 235 will open Thursday afternoon.

Drivers will use this ramp if they’re driving east on I-44 and need to exit north towards Edmond. ODOT said this is a major milestone for the two-year update.

This is one of the ramps that will take you up and over part of the interstate.

The next portion of the project connects Lincoln Boulevard to I-44 and the Broadway Extension northbound directly. ODOT said it will make the roads safer for drivers by separating traffic that would normally compete for the same lanes.

ODOT said soon it will be working on the 63rd Street off-ramp which will shut the ramp down for 45-days.

“That will allow the contractor and ODOT time to get the rest of the retaining wall finished up and continue paving,” said Jeff Garder the project engineer. “And the back fill operations behind the retaining wall to get a new ramp built.”

During the closure, the department said the quickest way to get back to 63rd Street will be on northbound I-235 going up to Wilshire Boulevard, using the turnaround, then taking the service road back. Drivers can also jump on I-235 southbound and take the exit.

ODOT said the project still has about 8 or 9 months left to go, so it’s asking drivers to stick to alternate routes so workers can finish quicker.
