In a state with has less than 20 operating oil wells, one company has plans to build a new one right in the heart of Oklahoma City.

A permit to drill and frack for oil has been approved near Northwest Expressway and Rockwell Avenue.

Revolution Resources has received a permit for an intent to drill at 6901 NW 80th Street.

“I can say with some certainty this isn’t an inexpensive operation,” said Oklahoma Corporation Commission spokesman Matt Skinner.

Skinner said while permits don't specifically state if the intentions are for the well be a fracking operation, they do outline five horizontal wells.

The property is zoned for industrial use.

It's close to businesses along Northwest Expressway and an apartment complex on the other side of Rockwell Avenue.

Oklahoma City told News 9 it can’t legally say no to the project but can regulate noise, odor, fencing and traffic from the site.

“Obviously, there will be some increase truck traffic,” said Skinner.

Revolution Resources did not return News 9's phone calls for comment.

Skinner said the company has 18 months to start the project or lose the permit and has wells in the same formation already operating.
