Investigators said the teens also stole a truck In Arkansas sometime between Friday and Sunday. Muskogee police say that truck broke down, the teens stole another pickup and and led them on a short chase.
Officers said the teens shot at officers and ran away. Police said the girl was shot and killed by police and the boy shot and killed himself.
"They had extra ammunition, they had extra clips. We don't know where they're come from. We’re still working on that part of the investigation, again, just another thing that's not ordinary for 17-year-olds over a four-state area to be in that circumstance,” Chief Teehee said.
Teehee said he did speak with family and is grateful all of his officers came home.
“The thing that comes to the chief’s mind is that all officers go home at night and that’s my number one priority. Nobody likes the final result on what happened, but the suspects determine our actions,” Teehee explained.
Police haven't released the suspect's names because they are still trying to contact family.
Police say four officers involved in yesterday’s shooting are on a routine paid administrative leave.
