A mask mandate will likely be debated at OKC City Hall in two weeks.
OKC City Council passed a resolution Tuesday strongly encouraging residents to follow CDC masking guidelines.
That which include wearing a mask at indoor public places regardless of vaccination status.
Some councilmembers wish they could do more by passing an actual ordinance.
“If we actually enacted a mask ordinance, we could be protecting people a lot more. Unfortunately, dear friends those votes don’t exist on this council at present,” said Councilman James Cooper of Ward 2.
But Cooper said he'll see if he has the votes in two weeks.
That's when he said he'll introduce a mask ordinance which can be enforced.
“Even if it loses, we will do this,” said Cooper.
The last mask ordinance expired in the spring.
Passing an emergency ordinance, which would take effect immediately, requires a super majority of 7 votes.
