Severe Storms With Possible, Brief Tornadoes Move Through OKC Metro

Storms that moved quickly from southwest Oklahoma to the OKC metro around midnight Tuesday produced possible, brief, weak tornadoes in several parts of the northwest side of the city.

Storms that moved quickly from southwest Oklahoma to the OKC metro around midnight Tuesday produced possible, brief, weak tornadoes in several parts of the northwest side of the city.

A brief tornado touched down late Tuesday night northeast of Union City, seen live on News 9. There were other possible, brief spin-ups near Yukon, in northwest Oklahoma City and a possible tornado northeast of Norman near Lake Stanley Draper. There have been some damage reports from the storm that moved across the west and northwest side of the Oklahoma City metro. No injuries have been reported.

The Oklahoma City metro area was placed under a severe thunderstorm watch until 5 a.m. as storms are expected to reach the metro by midnight.

A tornado watch was issued earlier Tuesday evening for several counties in northwest and western Oklahoma.

The tornado watch was issued for Alfalfa, Beckham, Blaine, Custer, Dewey, Ellis, Harper, Major, Roger Mills, Washita, Woods and Woodward counties. The watch is set to expire at 1 a.m.

A previously issued severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Caddo, Comanche, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Jefferson, Stephens and Tillman counties until 3 a.m.

The storms are capable of producing golf ball size hail, powerful winds and possible tornadoes.
