There will soon be a place to elevate and support businesses owned by people of color and women on Greenwood!
Wednesday was a day of celebration with crowds of people packing the Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa, to see it.
"Today's announcement in partnership between the US Black Chamber, the Greenwood Black Chamber and the US Small Business Administration will allow us to make sure that businesses both owned by people of color and women have the information they need to be able to have sustainability to grow their communities as well as their businesses," said Ron Busby, Sr. President/CEO of the U.S. Black Chambers.
The Greenwood Women's Business Center is coming to Black Wall Street next year.
"This office which was established in 1979 is to ensure that women have an equitable seat at the table and that is what we are doing," said Natalie Madeira Cofield- Assistant Administrator, SBA.
This is a symbolic move- not just because of what this space will mean for women-owned businesses on Greenwood but here is a building, rising up to strengthen a community that was burned to the ground just 100 years ago.
"80% of our businesses, right here on Greenwood...are led by women," said Dr. Freeman Culver, President, Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.
"Today marks a very important expansion in access to services to women-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. It is a moment that has been long, overdue," said John Veal, District Director, OK SBA District Office.
Speakers today made sure the audience knew, this is just the beginning of the work.
"In order for there to be a great America- there must be a great black America. In order for there to be a great black America, there must be great black businesses and in order for there to be great black businesses we need your support," said Busby.
