The Norman Police Department released video footage Thursday showing a gunfight between three officers and a murder suspect in a downtown alley.
Cleveland County prosecutors charged the suspect, Isis McMullen, with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of James Pennington, a man experiencing homelessness in Norman.
Norman Police said in a probable cause affidavit McMullen allegedly shot Pennington multiple times behind a business near the 300 block of E Comanche St.
The video shows officers taking gunfire after responding to the scene. No officer was injured during the response.
McMullen, 28, suffered multiple non-fatal gunshot wounds to her arms and legs. After medical treatment, officers booked McMullen into the county jail.
On Tuesday, the district court issued McMullen a $5 million bond, which was requested by District Attorney Greg Mashburn’s office.
The department warns the video contains graphic content and language. Watch the video here.
McMullen plead not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, shooting with intent to kill, and possessing a firearm after a 2020 felony conviction in Douglas County, Nebraska of assault by strangulation.
Mashburn told News 9 McMullen has ties to Louisiana and recently moved to Oklahoma.
“From best we can tell, she had moved to Norman at least a few weeks ago because she’s been around the homeless shelter,” Mashburn said.
No attorney is listed McMullen on court records. Tim Loughlin, executive director of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System said they expect to provide her counsel.
“We anticipate we’ll be appointed tomorrow or early next week,” Laughlin said Thursday.
