Oklahoman's can still enjoy a piece of the legendary Gilcrease Museum even though the building is closed and under construction.
"The museum is no more. It has been demolished as we prepare for our new building. We wanted to have a presence throughout the community at that time," said Frank Mulhern with Gilcrease Museum.
Welcome to Curations by Gilcrease Museum -- a temporary piece of the Mother Road Market experience.
"We wanted to make sure we fit into the Mother Road vibe, so a lot of the product we have is from local makers in the community," said Mulhern.
There are books, jewelry, clothing and Oklahoma treasures in the gift shop. The art room is right next door.
"So, this is a local artist, Kathleen Neeley -- and she has been doing some work locally for a while, she has also done national work. She is a printmaker and has number of different types of whimsical artworks she has created," said Mulhern.
Next to Kathleen's art are two spaces for the community.
"It gives people an opportunity to express themselves -- even people who aren't artists can use art to get some feelings out, so that people can understand where they are coming from and what they are dealing with," said Mulhern.
And of course, you will see renderings of the future of the Gilcrease Museum!
"These renderings are the new museum...we want people to understand the concept of where Gilcrease is going," said Mulhern.
It has been a tough couple of years. The staff at Gilcrease believes art has a way of pulling us all back together again.
"I think anytime you are dealing with a traumatic situation or a change to the norm, things like art can make people come alive in a different way. It reminds people of our shared humanity," said Mulhern.
