The Federal Trade Commission is ordering Credit Karma to shell out $3 million for misleading customers.

The personal finance company used "pre-approvals" to trick customers into applying for credit cards and products they were not eligible for, the FTC said.

The agency said that wasted the consumers' time and could have negatively impacted their credit scores.

Credit Karma said it "fundamentally disagrees" with the FTC's "baseless allegations".
