Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Multiple Oklahoma Counties Until 11 p.m.

A cold front is expected to fire up several waves of storms for parts of the state this afternoon and later tonight, according to News 9 Chief Meteorologist David Payne.

UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Pottawatomie and Seminole County until 7:30pm.

UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Caddo, Canadian, Carter, Cleveland, Comanche, Garvin, Grady, Hughes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lincoln, Love, McClain, Murray, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Stephens and Tillman County until 11:00pm.

The storms are expected to hit along south and southeast of the Interstate 44 corridor into the southern regions of the state.

David also said the strongest storms will fire up south and southwest of the Oklahoma City metro with the main threats being wind and hail.

The cold front is crashing to the south now, it will eventually blow through central Oklahoma mid-morning and temps will fall some into the afternoon. The risk for severe weather goes up this afternoon and evening. There will be two waves of storms that fire. The first one is this today, the second one takes off around midnight.

Wave number one will last from 3:00 PM - midnight and will bring a chance for large hail, damaging winds, and some flooding. The tornado threat is low today with the wind shear not all that favorable. That's a good thing.

Wave number two takes off around midnight and will last through about 6:00 a.m. Friday. This severe risk will be mainly in southern Oklahoma.

This round will bring rain back to Oklahoma City, but the strongest portions of these storms will be south. Large hail, damaging winds, and flooding the main threats.
