One of Oklahoma’s biggest attractions is Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, and the recognitions and awards are pouring in to prove it.

“We say you can taste the history here,” said Cattlemen’s owner Dick Stubbs.

The iconic restaurant opened its doors back in 1910. Stubbs became the owner in 1990.

“It’s really important to us to do the basics right,” said Stubbs.

That mindset attracts visitors from all over the country.

“We were known around the country and since we serve over 10,000 people a week, you know there’s a lot of people that know about us,” said Stubb.

People like Jamin Crap from Lancaster Wisconsin, in Oklahoma City for competition at the stockyards.

“Actually, last year we were down here, and we heard of them, but they were so busy that we weren’t able to get in,” said Crap.

Truth is, you just never know who you might run into at Cattlemen’s.

“We had a president once, George Bush, number one. And David was here the night whenever he was here. Reba McIntyre was here just a few weeks ago. Sylvester Stallone came in a number of times when he was here filming. Shaq was here when the Thunder were in the playoffs. Charles Barkley came in and had lunch,” said David Egan, director of operations for Cattlemen’s.

The Steakhouse has received numerous awards and was recently inducted into the United States Steakhouse Hall of fame.

“It’s a great honor because we’re the only restaurant in Oklahoma, and one of only five other steakhouses in the country and it was a great honor for us to be chosen,” said Egan.

Nominations for the hall of fame come in from all over the country.

“The board will review the recommendations, the nominations, then they’ll go back and try and scrutinize them and try and figure out whether they meet the criteria or not,” said Egan.

Inductees are selected not only for a great steak, but also for history and the overall experience when visiting the restaurants.

“There are a lot of steakhouses in Oklahoma City, there are a lot of steakhouses in Oklahoma, and for us to be chosen to meet those criteria is really special to us,” said Egan.

Making Cattlemen’s Oklahoma proud.

“There’s something magic about this business that will just continue on forever if it’s taken care of,” said Egan.

While the restaurant has received many recognitions, and even been featured on national television shows, this is by far one of the biggest honors. Cattlemen’s is located on Agnew near the Stockyards.
