Court documents in Major County District Court said Thomas Walker is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection to the homicide.
The documents said at around 11 p.m. on Saturday, the Major County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a man, Walker, who walked into the Fairview Police Department covered in blood, claiming that he shot someone in the Cheyenne Valley area.
Walker told police that the victim he shot was not moving when he left the scene.
At around 11:16 p.m., MCSO located the victim, Dennis Wilder, dead near County Road 52 and County Road 251.
Walker requested to have an attorney present.
Law enforcement then spoke to Walker’s father, Steven Walker, who said that his son had come home covered in blood.
Walker stated that Wilder had beat him up and was choking a woman before he shot him.
Walker's father told him to not run, and he drove him to the Fairview Police Department.
At around 3:12 a.m., the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation interviewed the woman, who said she was the girlfriend of Wilder and best friend of Walker.
On Saturday, Walker arrived at the woman's home in Fairview intoxicated before he continued to drink with Wilder and her throughout the afternoon, according to court documents.
At around 7 p.m., they went on a drive around Cheyenne Valley and continued drinking alcohol.
The documents said at one point, Walker and Wilder began to argue about an unidentified person when Thomas pulled his vehicle over so they could fight.
The woman then exited the vehicle and went down a dirt road before Wilder tackled her in a ditch.
Wilder then got on top of the woman and told her to calm down, he loved her and how they shouldn’t have drank the alcohol, court documents said.
She then punched Wilder several times to get him off her before she got up to run.
Wilder then tackled her a second time, and she then punched him in the face numerous times before rolling him off her, the documents said.
The woman said she then saw Walker exit the truck with blood all over his face, a busted nose and an eye swollen shut.
Walker then grabbed a handgun and pointed it directly at Wilder before shooting him numerous times, according to court documents.
Walker then placed the woman in the passenger seat of the truck when she told him that they couldn’t leave Wilder.
Walker responded by saying, "I killed him: he’s gone. We gotta get out of here,” according to court documents.
The woman told Walker that Wilder wasn’t dead and they needed to get him help.
Walker responded by saying that he would take her home and come back for Wilder.
The woman said she never heard back from Walker after he dropped her off at home.
She also did not say that she was choked, and the OSBI said they didn’t see any injuries on her face and neck at the time of the OSBI interview.
Authorities weren’t able to speak to Walker because he wanted to have an attorney present.
Law enforcement searched for the handgun, but they couldn’t find it in Walker’s vehicle or home, court documents said.
