A Good Samaritan helped in the arrest of a man accused of assaulting a woman inside a car from Owasso to Tulsa, Tulsa County deputies said.
Deputies said the man called 911 while following Robert Grayson and the victim, giving deputies the play-by-play, up until the point the victim was thrown out of the car near 41st and Riverside.
Deputies said when they arrested Grayson, he said he was the victim. But, deputies said the Good Samaritan saw the whole incident and clearly, the woman was not the attacker.
The Good Samaritan first saw a car swerving on Highway 75 near Owasso on Saturday evening, deputies said.
"As he got closer to this vehicle to see what was going on, he could see the male driver physically attacking the female passenger. It was brutal, it was violent. She was being hit, she was being punched,” said Casey Roebuck with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Grayson drove all the way to Tulsa and the victim tried to jump out of the car at a red light.
The witness said that's when Grayson sped up and the victim was thrown out. Deputies said Grayson kept driving and the man even followed Grayson all the way back to his apartment.
"I find it nothing short of remarkable and he is to be commended. He also did so safely. He didn’t confront the suspect in this case. He observed and he reported. He did this perfectly,” said Roebuck. "Let this be a warning to potential abusers, you're doing this in a public place, people are watching, this is Oklahoma, there are good people everywhere and when good people see what's happening and get involved, they will help put away. So it doesn't matter how scared your victim is, if other people witness this and they get involved, it is over for you."
The victim was taken to the hospital for her injuries, deputies said.
Deputies said when they arrested Grayson, he also had a meth pipe in his pocket.
