Severe Storms Redevelop In Central Oklahoma; Damaging Winds, Heavy Rain Are Main Threats

A storm system bringing the chance for severe weather is moving across Oklahoma on Saturday, activating Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in several counties.

A batch of isolated and severe storms developed Saturday evening in central Oklahoma. These storms have the possibility of strong winds, heavy rain and smaller hail, according to Meteorologist Justin Rudicel.

SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

  1. Cleveland, McClain and Pottawatomie Counties are under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 9:45 p.m.
  2. Custer, Washita counties are under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 7:45 p.m.

The storms in SW Oklahoma have heavy rains and damaging lighting, with reports of slight damage in area that were hit, Justin Rudicel says.

Showers and thunderstorms are continuing to develop out west and is expected to travel across the state, making for a wet Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Wind gusts could reach 60 mph for these storms and include lightning and downpours, according to Justin Rudicel.

These are moving in from the southwest to the northeast at about 15 mph.

Nickel-sized hail is also possible. The damaging wind threat with this storm is marginal.

Parts of Oklahoma will experience extreme heat and humidity with a chance of gusty storms. 

Pop-up storms continue through morning in southwestern Oklahoma but should fade away by early afternoon. 

This will allow for more heat getting up into the 90s and some 100s.

More storms will likely develop with the heat by late afternoon in a scattered variety. Lighting and damaging winds are the main threats with small hail and heavy rains into the evening and overnight.
