Weather Blog: A Mild Pattern Underway Before Another Late Week Warming Trend

A cold front moved across the area yesterday and is bringing some relief from heat and humidity for the next few days.

What is the forecast for today?

This morning's low temperatures will drop into the upper 40s and lower to mid-50s, with daytime highs reaching the lower 80s. Abundant sunshine will continue today with a light northeast breeze at 5 to 10 mph.

What is the forecast for tomorrow?

Relatively mild weather continues for the next few days, but temperatures will warm into the upper 80s and lower 90s through the end of the week.

What are our chances for rain this week?

Our next cold front arrives Sunday and should bring more fall-like weather early next week, but the prospects for measurable rain are very slim and the drought will continue. There is, however, a very slight chance for a few small showers or sprinkles positioned near the area over the next few days.

A very small disturbance may develop early tomorrow morning, leading to a few sprinkles or small showers from South Central Kansas into far North Central Oklahoma. This activity should remain northwest of our immediate area, but a few showers may slide into Western Osage County early tomorrow morning. This probability remains near or less than 10%.

Thursday night and early Friday, a slightly stronger disturbance is positioned across portions of the Central Plain States and should influence the far eastern Oklahoma. This may bring a few clouds Thursday night and early Friday morning, and possibly even a few small showers or sprinkles across extreme eastern Oklahoma into Western Arkansas. Once again, the probability of measurable precipitation remains near or less than 10%.

The upper air pattern becomes more conducive to bringing a slightly stronger front into the area by this weekend. By this time next week, morning lows will be in the 50s and daytime highs should stay in the 70s.

Update on Hurricane Milton:

Hurricane Milton is in the Western Gulf of Mexico and is expected to influence Florida by at least Wednesday as a major hurricane. Some pockets of heavy rain are located over Florida this morning through midday with a disturbance ahead of the hurricane.

By the time Milton approaches Florida, the potential for significant flooding will be underway. While the exact intensity and track may change, Milton is expected to become a powerful hurricane nearing Category 4 making landfall late Wednesday afternoon or early evening as a major Category 3 hurricane. Significant storm surges are likely across the Western Gulf coastal areas of Florida. The storm will move across Florida and exit into the Atlantic coastal areas as a hurricane.

I-244 Pavement Rehabilitation

1. Ongoing pavement work between I-44 and the Arkansas River bridge, with lane and ramp closures lasting through spring 2025.

US-75 Bridge Rehabilitation

1. Lane closures at 7th St. and off-ramp closures to 7th St. through fall 2024 for bridge rehabilitation.

US-412 Bridge Rehabilitation

1. US-412 narrowed to two lanes at 81st W. Ave. in Sand Springs through February 2025.

Turnpike Ramp Closures

1. Nightly ramp closures on the Will Rogers Turnpike for cashless tolling construction through Saturday.
