The next cold front moves through early Tuesday, helping to cool temperatures back into the 70s and 80s.

Isolated showers are possible in the east, but most of us will stay dry.

 Wednesday will start chilly but a bit warmer by afternoon.

The next nine days look mostly dry. Lows will be in the 50s and low 60s, with highs mostly in the 80s; we could see 90s on Thursday.

HURRICANE HELENE

Meanwhile, Florida is already getting hammered by Hurricane Helene.

Winds were sustained at 140 mph. Helene is now a tropical storm with winds gusting to 90 mph.

Flooding rain and tornadoes will impact Florida, many states in the South and even the Midwest.

EMSA HEAT SAFETY TIPS

-HYDRATION is key in preventing heat-related illness. Drink plenty of water or electrolyte replacement drinks several hours before and during long exposure to the summer heat.

Wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if working outdoors, and take plenty of shade breaks.

No alcohol or caffeine.

If you do not have air conditioning, find a cooling station or public space (such as libraries or malls) during the day.

Don’t limit your use of air conditioning.

Use the buddy system if working outdoors and check on elderly neighbors.

Keep a cellphone on you at all times when outdoors, including walking, running daily errands, yard work or sports and physical activity.
