Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida on Thursday night as a Category 4.

Oklahoma's only impact will be on our far eastern counties. This region could see showers Friday into early Saturday.

The remainder of this week is warm and quiet across Oklahoma, with sunny skies and a cool breeze.

Light north winds and sunshine continue on Friday with highs in the 80s.

In Oklahoma, we will see some clouds from Helene and a few showers in our eastern counties.

We need rain, but it is still very hard to come by!

We continue with cool nights and warm afternoons over the weekend with lots of sunshine.

The trend continues on Sunday with highs in the low to mid-80s but there may be some cloud cover.

The next nine days look mostly dry. Lows will be in the 50s and low 60s, with highs in the 80s.

HURRICANE HELENE

Meanwhile, Florida is already getting hammered by Hurricane Helene.

Winds were sustained at 140 mph. Helene is now a tropical storm with winds gusting to 90 mph.

EMSA HEAT SAFETY TIPS

-HYDRATION is key in preventing heat-related illness. Drink plenty of water or electrolyte replacement drinks several hours before and during long exposure to the summer heat.

Wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if working outdoors, and take plenty of shade breaks.

No alcohol or caffeine.

If you do not have air conditioning, find a cooling station or public space (such as libraries or malls) during the day.

Don’t limit your use of air conditioning.

Use the buddy system if working outdoors and check on elderly neighbors.

Keep a cellphone on you at all times when outdoors, including walking, running daily errands, yard work or sports and physical activity.
