Classen SAS focuses on the fine arts, but they haven’t had an auditorium for several years. They just opened a 500 seat auditorium, a brand new state of the art space for students to bring their talents to life.
“I am really excited to create new visions of life, because that is what art and theater imitates,” Seidah Muhammad, a drama major, said.
The school hopes that this space will bring people together.
“Out theme this year is #community, because we believe that building a community helps our students become even more amazing than they already are,” Misti Tope, Classen SAS principal, said.
The new auditorium features an orchestra pit, new lighting and a grand stage.
“We, as pianists, finally have the space to perform,” Kortlyn Liles, a piano major, said. “We originally were in the gallery across the hall, which is a nice space, but it is kind of hard to work with.”
For the past five years, students have used other school’s spaces for their performances.
“When you can have your safe place to perform and practice, especially in front of your peers, that will really change how Classen is built here, in this building,” Erika Vasquez, co-dance director said.
The students are certainly worth the investment.
“They are important,” Orchestra Director Kimberly Banz said. “They are why we do what we do each and every day.”
