A local spay and neuter clinic is offering low-cost procedures for everyone. Their goal is to save people money by offering spaying and neutering procedures for $100 or less, depending on the weight of the animal. They also offer vaccines, microchips and flea and tick prevention at a low cost.
“We truly are in a crisis here in Oklahoma with pet overpopulation,” Wendy Howard, a veterinarian at Get Fixed OK said. “Rescues and shelters are needed and they do a great job taking care of the animals, but we are trying to stop the problem at the root.”
There is one main thing this clinic does to make their procedures affordable.
“We are able to keep the cost down because of the efficiencies that we have developed,” Howard said. “We are able to do 40 to 50 surgeries a day, just because our process has been so streamlined.”
Veterinarian Wendy Howard says spaying or neutering your pet can improve their overall health.
“If you can get that done before their first heat cycle on females, you will reduce their chances of [mammary] tumors by almost 100 percent,” Howard said.
The goal of Get Fixed OK is to help as many animals as possible.
“Hopefully we will have an impact on pet overpopulation as well as impacting and providing better health for every animal that we spay and neuter,” Howard said.
Get Fixed OK works with many metro area shelters.
