A fugitive charged in a deadly hit-and-run accident is back behind bars. A jail spokesperson says U.S. Marshals took Jeffery Allen Hill into custody last week. Hill had been on the run since October when he didn’t show up for court. The victim’s family says they are relieved Hill is finally in custody and hopeful his running days are over.

“I called mom and screamed 'They've got him,'” said Julia Brodersen, the victim’s sister.

Brodersen says she has anxiously awaited the news that the man charged in her sister’s death is back behind bars. “I think we came through it pretty good as a family and we just did what we had to, to try and help find him and bring him in,” she said.

Brodersen’s sister Kesia Godwin died on November 1, 2022, after being struck by a motorcycle near SW 44th and Eastern Avenue. According to police, Hill left the motorcycle and took off running. Godwin’s sister said she was living on the streets at the time of her death. “People need to know that she was a person she might have been transient, but she was a person, and she was loved,” Brodersen said.

Hill is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and causing an accident while driving without a valid driver’s license. He was scheduled for his formal arraignment in October but didn’t show up. However, according to a jail spokesperson, U.S. Marshals caught up with fugitive at his home last week. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on November 6. “We will never have closure there's no such thing in a case like this,” Brodersen said. “He's in our life forever now.”

However, Godwin’s family says they are ready to see Hill finally face the charges against him. “We just need to keep everybody safe from him and Kesia deserves to rest, and I don't think she'll rest, and I don't think we'll rest until it's all done,” she said.

Court records show Hill’s case is bound over for trial, a date for his formal arraignment has not been set.
